Brad Keselowski proved Sunday he can win races anyway he has to, stretching his fuel mileage to win the third Chase race Sunday at Dover International Speedway.
Kyle Busch dominated the race, but had to pit for fuel with 11 laps remaining. Teammate Denny Hamlin then assumed the lead, but he had to pit with 10 laps left, handing the lead to Keselowski, who cruised to the win over Jeff Gordon.
The win was Keselowski’s fifth of the season and his second in three Chase for the Sprint Cup races. It also allowed him to regain the lead in the Chase standings. He leads Jimmie Johnson give five points.
Gordon, who was gambling that Keselowski would run out of fuel, finished second followed by Mark Martin, Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards. Busch finished seventh followed by Hamlin in eighth. Both were a lap down after pitting late for fuel.
Several Chase drivers either struggled or had problems, including Kasey Kahne (15th), Greg Biffle (16th), Tony Stewart (20th) and Matt Kenseth (35th).
In the Chase standings, Keselowski leads Johnson by five points while Hamlin is third, 16 points back. Clint Bowyer is fourth, 25 points behind, while Stewart, Kahne, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the rest are all more than 30 points back.
